COUrSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides educators of all grade levels and teaching experiences a self guided experience exploring tricks and tips available in today’s apps. Educators will benefit by getting the most from practicing and using new and exciting applications.

Correspondence will occur once every week until course requirements are met. Evidence of 15 hours per unit must be submitted. Locations will vary due to technology needs and be determined on an individual basis.

There will be 12.5 hours of instructional sessions per unit of credit during this course. The type of communication will be determined by the participant and Valley Teachers Group.

PRIMARY LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Implement the use of Google Drive, Remind, Additio, Haiku Deck, TED, Slack, Animoto, Explain Everything, StudyBlue, Poll Everywhere
  • Adapt curriculum using these apps to enhance student learning.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Scholastic/academic time log must be submitted at completion of the course. 

The keeping of a time specific log documenting research, activity, and curriculum is required. Evidence of 45 clock hours must be recorded to meet course requirement. For 3 CEU’s, the enrollee must engage in 37.5 hours of instructional sessions and 7.5 hours of independent practice.

IND 1384 will be evaluated by a display of 20 examples in your project. There must be evidence of all apps throughout the examples.

All people participating in the educational process at Fresno Pacific University are expected to pursue honesty and integrity in all aspects of their academic work. Academic dishonesty, including plagiarism, will be handled according to the procedures set forth on page 8 of the Fresno Pacific University Catalogue.

COURSE MATERIALS

A variety of articles providing examples of the above applications.

FIRST CORRESPONDENCE:

Class Schedule:
  • Review of the course syllabus.
  • Review all materials sent to the participants and formulate individual project guidelines for each participant.
  • Provide examples of the academic log to be maintained by the participant and submitted upon course completion.

Assignments:
  • Identify specific CA State Content Standards that are being addressed.
  • Participant will provide a tentative outline of final project.

SECOND CORRESPONDENCE:

Class Schedule:
  • Participants are to bring any questions that may have come up during their work thus far.
  • Present all work completed up to that point for review.

Assignments:
  • Identify specific CA State Content Standards that are being addressed.
  • Update outline and identify specific technologies present in the project.

EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR CREDIT

Grading Criteria:
Grades are Credit/No Credit (CR or NC). Credit is equivalent to a B grade or above. Letter grades are not issued.

Participants are evaluated based on successful completion and submission of:
  1. Time log recording a minimum of 15 hours per unit of credit including the instructional sessions - 30%
  2. One Word document per unit of credit (see rubric below) - 30%
  3. Response to each of the 34 MS Word tutorials - 10%
  4. Proper documentation and citation in all work for this course - 10%
  5. Participation in all agreed upon correspondence. - 20%

Completion of these items will result in a passing grade for the participant.

POLICY STATEMENT

These courses are post-baccalaureate, professional development units that are not part of a degree program, but are designed in collaboration with school districts and other educational organizations to meet specific staff development needs. Students should seek approval of appropriate district or college officials before enrolling in these courses to satisfy any degree, state credential, or local school district requirements.
