COUrSE DESCRIPTION

This advanced course builds on foundational knowledge of Microsoft Teams for educators and focuses on optimizing student use of Teams in K–12 classrooms. Participants will explore strategies to increase student engagement, foster collaboration, manage digital workflows, and integrate Teams with classroom technology. Through practical, student-centered assignments, teachers will develop skills to guide students in effective, responsible use of Teams for learning and collaboration.

Correspondence will occur once every week until course requirements are met. Evidence of 15 hours per unit must be submitted. Online correspondence will vary due to technology needs and be determined on an individual basis.

PRIMARY LEARNING OBJECTIVES (UNITS 1-3)

  • Guide students in setting up Teams accounts and navigating the interface
  • Teach students proper digital citizenship, collaboration, and online etiquette
  • Introduce best practices for student-led channels and file organization
  • Establish expectations for student engagement, communication, and participation
  • Enable students to collaborate effectively on assignments and projects
  • Integrate collaborative tools like OneNote Class Notebook, Forms, and Planner
  • Teach students to manage their workload, track assignments, and set reminders
  • Use Teams to provide timely feedback to students
  • Use Teams’ analytics and activity reporting to monitor student engagement
  • Provide differentiated feedback and scaffolded support using Teams features
  • Promote digital responsibility, equitable access, and inclusion in student work
  • Foster student agency and leadership in digital collaboration

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Your first assignment/ log entry is a phone call / meeting with Valley Teachers Group. Any additional correspondence will be conducted on request. Email valleyteachersgroup@gmail.com and set up an Orientation meeting.
  • The keeping of a time specific log documenting research, activity, and curriculum is required. Evidence of 15 clock hours per each unit of credit must be recorded to meet course requirements, scholastic/academic time log must be submitted at completion of the course
  • When all assignments that are listed below have been completed, evidence emailed/sent to valleyteachersgroup@gmail.com for instructor review. In email please format subject line as follows: last name, first name, course name/number

Assigments will be discussed during Orientation.


EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR CREDIT

If any of the 15 hours will be completed asynchronously, you must provide a detailed explanation of how the additional time will be accounted for here (What assignments will they complete? What will they turn into you to prove this work was completed?).

Participants are evaluated based on successful completion and submission of all assignments and completion of “time log” of hours requirement.

POLICY STATEMENT

These courses are post-baccalaureate, professional development units that are not part of a degree program, but are designed in collaboration with school districts and other educational organizations to meet specific staff development needs. Students should seek approval of appropriate district or college officials before enrolling in these courses to satisfy any degree, state credential, or local school district requirements.
